St. Johann - Alpendorf is located about 55 km south of the festival city of Salzburg and is generally considered the main town of the region. This holiday resort cannot only look back on a long tradition but in recent times has also gained the reputation of being an excellent shopping center. The center is dominated by the cathedral of Pongau.
Directly from the center the lifts "Hahnbaum" lead onto the famous ski mountain (1.200 m) of the St. Johanner. The compact "house ski resort" is a recommendable, familiy-friendly alternative to the huge "Ski amadé", which you can enter from Alpendorf. Alpendorf is situated about 3 km away from the center and is a largely independent "holiday island". Alpendorf with its great offer of high-level restaurants differs decisively from the rest of the town. From here highly modern cable cars and chairlifts lead directly into Austria's largest ski resort. St. Johann is not only a beautiful place to be, but - during summer -, because of its great "strategical" location at the very heart of the province Salzburg, an ideal starting point for many sight seeing tours as well as trips to the beautiful mountain world. You must visit the romantic "Liechtensteinklamm", a true monument of nature. Since 1875 this natural spectacle, around which a lot of legends have been spun, keeps fascinating all visitors. With its about 10.700 inhabitants St. Johann is a lively town all year round. A variety of cosy hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops invite you to come and stay.
