Bärnbach combines art, history and relaxation in a unique way. Located in the Lipizzanerheimat, the town surprises visitors with extraordinary architecture, cultural attractions and pleasant places to unwind.
Once known for coal mining and glass production, Bärnbach has developed into a vibrant cultural destination. Numerous works of art in public spaces shape the townscape and reflect the town’s rich history.
One of Bärnbach’s most famous landmarks is St. Barbara Church, redesigned according to the ideas of Friedensreich Hundertwasser. With its colourful appearance, organic forms and golden elements, it has become one of the region’s most distinctive attractions. Just a short walk away, visitors can discover the façade of the local secondary school designed by Robert Zeppel-Sperl and the striking Moses Fountain created by Ernst Fuchs in the town park.
The Glass Museum showcases Bärnbach’s long tradition of glassmaking through changing exhibitions and selected exhibits. The Holy Mountain offers a peaceful retreat with its small church, Calvary group and Carmelite convent. On the northern edge of town, Alt Kainach Castle invites visitors to explore its museum dedicated to the history of castles and fortifications. During the summer months, Schlossbad Bärnbach provides a refreshing place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
