Welcome to Banská Štiavnica!
Banská Štiavnica is considered the oldest mountain town in Slovakia. In 1993, the city was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The town lies in the middle of an extinct volcanic mountain range, the Schemnitz Mountains. The river Štiavnica flows through the city and runs almost completely underground. Two mountains rise around the encircled town: Kalvária at 726 m and Sitno at 1009 m with attractive coniferous forests.
