The centuries have changed many things about the residence of the Habsburgs in Graz, built in 1438 and now the official residence of the Governor of Styria.

Wings were newly added, others destroyed. But still today one finds numerous impressive testimonies of past times. From Biedermeier to Renaissance and back to Gothic.

The famous double spiral staircase dates from this period. And these inscriptions - AEIOU. The "Versöhnungsstiege" consists of two staircases running in opposite directions, which merge briefly on each floor, separate and come together again.

The Habsburgs always called their residences the "Hofburg". Since there was already a castle in Graz, it was unceremoniously renamed "Schloss". Thus the Schlossberg received its name.
