Central Europe's highest monastery above Matrei with the Waldrast Nature Resort as a place to stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation. Starting point for beautiful hikes in summer and winter.

The historic pilgrimage site of Maria Waldrast lies idyllically at the foot of the Serles between the Stubaital and the Wipptal. The popular excursion destination can be reached via an access road (toll road in summer) from Mützens above Matrei. But you can also hike up - either on the toboggan run or via the Quellenweg through the forest. An MTB trail also leads up there.

Once at the top, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Olperer and down into the valley. The pilgrimage site consists of a church, the monastery and the Waldrast Nature Resort, where you can stop and spend the night. A second place to stop is the Matreier Ochsenalm a little below Maria Waldrast. The Creation Trail leads past here, which is intended to lead to inner peace and balance.

However, most hikers in summer come to climb the peak of the Serles (2,717 m) and enjoy the unique panoramic view. Sunrise tours are also very popular.
