The Wood Museum in St. Ruprecht ob Murau in the Murau district proudly presents its roof and the unusual dormer window. Like a diamond, it stands out from the roof of the main house, a former cattle barn. A symbol to show us that the traditional does not exclude the modern. Immerse yourself in a "wood experience world" on 10,000 m2 of total indoor and outdoor space. Experience wood in all its variations from the past to the present. Here you will find THE museum of wood - from the past to the future. Playing with wood - handicrafts with wood - wood and energy - wood and art - wood and handicrafts and much more can be seen and experienced in the wood museum in St. Ruprecht ob Murau.

The Wood Museum inspires with its comprehensive and appealing presentation of the topic of wood. Historical workshops have just as much space here as wood construction, wooden toys, furniture design and fine art.

A former cattle barn was converted into an unusual exhibition building with the greatest possible respect for the old structure. The great challenge of the building extension was met in the form of a modern wooden addition, which was awarded the "Styrian Wood Construction Prize" in 1999. In addition to freely accessible outdoor objects such as a fruit press, a walk-in "forest tower", which provides insight into the forest network. A so-called arboretum (planting of various tree and shrub species) was created to preserve valuable plant heritage. In the HOLZ-BAU-HAUS the visitor learns interesting facts about building, living, heating and living with wood. In addition, annually changing special exhibitions are initiated. 2013 the wood museum received the Steir. Holzbaupreis for the roof conversion with the extraordinary, new dormer.
