Here in the smallest village in the Engadin, all those seeking tranquillity and a quiet retreat will find a veritable oasis. Not to mention the opportunity to rise to great heights.

There it stands, on the Piz Kesch, at 2,500 m above sea level, proud, burnished by the sun, and rich in spectacular views: the Es-cha Hut is legendary. Some of the most beautiful tours pass by this spot. And if you were to believe the entries in the visitors’ book, the hut certainly lives up to its claim of “a haven in the storm”. Even more impressive is a visit there when the sun is shining. And according to statistics, that happens on 322 days a year.

The ascent from Madulain, this little village with its 200 inhabitants, its typical Engadin houses and its carefully fostered Romansh culture, takes 2½ hours. It enjoys an idyllic setting by the River Inn, far removed from the rest of the world and basking in the sun. It treats inline-skaters, horse-riders and hikers to a network of varying routes.
