Paternion is located in the lower Drau Valley, nestled among mountains, water, and alpine pastures, and serves as an ideal starting point for active vacations in the Villach region. The village lies directly on the Drau Cycle Path, whose third section runs through Paternion, and offers a wide range of recreational activities, including hiking trails, bike paths, horseback riding, a heated outdoor pool, and fishing opportunities along the Drau River. Special attractions include the Drau ferry between Lansach and Feffernitz, the Grünspan Art Association, the Pöllan Stairway to Heaven, and Paternion Castle, a striking historic stately home.
