Three kilometers southwest of Triptis is the Lemnitzer Castle, which belonged to the von der Gabelentz family from the early 17th century until 1945. This family includes politicians as well as scientists and art scholars of supraregional, sometimes worldwide significance.
At the Haus Schwandke Museum, the starting point of the cycling route, you will find some information about the von der Gabelentz family.
The first station is the historic fortified church in Döblitz from the 13th century. Inside, there is a 4 by 8 meter fresco showing the triumphant Christ in a mandorla. The founding is probably based on a donation from the von der Gabelentz family, as they already exerted significant influence over the Orla Valley region from Altenburg in the 12th century.
The route continues via Miesitz to Kopitzsch. In Miesitz, you pass by the old manor house, formerly belonging to the noble family von Hayn, and in Kopitzsch the village church, which has belonged to the local church district of the same name since 1529.
Along a quiet country road you now cycle to Traun. The settlement is one of the oldest in the Orla Valley and was already part of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg at the beginning of the 13th century. Past a beautifully romantic village church, the route runs along the forest edge with a great view into the Orla Valley towards Lemnitz. In the village you will find the old castle lying on a gentle slope, bearing traces of the ravages of time. Considering the important cultural-political significance of the lords of the manor, one must imagine the great spirit that once blew through the historic walls built between 1739 and 1747. The last station leads past the manor located in Leubsdorf, which is now used for residential units, a small museum, and a ballroom.
